An alchemist in the late 17th century discovers that listeners of a rare composition played by particular Stradivari instruments fall into an ecstatic trance, in which the listeners lose their ability to reason or remember clearly. Shortly after conducting key experiments on the phenomena, he is executed by order of the church in the Inquisition.
In contemporary times, the wealthy benefactor of a foundation rediscovers this research by coincidence and develops a plan to manipulate key geo-political leaders by using an enhanced version of the technique. She proceeds to acquire the lost score and the necessary Stradivaris to complete her plan.
Three diverse individuals are separately monitoring a growing phenomenon of people disappearing as the score is introduced to the public and form an unlikely team to investigate…
